Tips for Experienced Cooks

Experiment with your BBQ sauce choice to elevate the flavor profile of your turkey. A smoky, bourbon-infused BBQ sauce can introduce a rich, complex flavor, while a spicy sauce can add a kick. For the turkey, consider injecting the marinade directly into the meat to enhance the flavors throughout. When grilling, use a two-zone heat method to prevent the outside from burning while ensuring the inside is cooked thoroughly. Instead of discarding the initial marinade, consider boiling it down to a safe, thick glaze that can be applied in the final 30 minutes of grilling, adding an extra layer of flavor. For the corn, try grilling it instead of boiling, brushing with a mix of melted butter, garlic, and herbs for a smokier taste.

Step 1: Prepare the Marinade

In a small bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, hot sauce, olive oil, honey, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Step 2: Marinate the Turkey

Place the turkey in a large bowl or resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over the turkey. Make sure the turkey is coated evenly with the marinade. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight in the refrigerator.

  • 1 whole turkey

Step 3: Grill the Turkey

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the turkey from the marinade and discard the remaining marinade. Grill the turkey over indirect heat for about 1 1/2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Baste the turkey with additional BBQ sauce every 20 minutes.

Step 4: Cook the Corn

In a pot of boiling water, cook the corn for 5-7 minutes or until tender. Drain the water and add butter, salt, and pepper to taste.

  • 4 ears of corn

Step 5: Rest and Serve

Let the turkey rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. Serve the turkey with the corn on the cob.
