Tips for Experienced Cooks

Experiment with seasoning the roasted vegetables with additional herbs and spices like thyme, rosemary, or paprika for an extra flavor boost. You can also deglaze the pan with a splash of white wine or beef broth after cooking the beef to make a quick pan sauce that brings more depth to the dish.

Step 1: Prepare the beef

In a large bowl, toss the sliced beef sirloin with the minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

  • 2 pounds beef sirloin (thinly sliced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper

Step 2: Sauté the onions

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and caramelized, about 15 minutes.

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large onions (thinly sliced)

Step 3: Cook the beef

Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the seasoned beef to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

  • Beef from Step 1

Step 4: Make the farofa

In a small skillet over medium heat, toast the cassava flour, stirring constantly, until fragrant and lightly browned, about 3-5 minutes.

  • 0.5 cup toasted cassava flour (farofa)

Step 5: Prepare the roasted vegetables

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Toss the green beans, carrots, and broccoli florets with a drizzle of olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for 20-25 minutes, until vegetables are tender and lightly browned.

  • 1 pound green beans (trimmed)
  • 1 pound carrots (peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 large head of broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper

Step 6: Warm the black beans

In a small saucepan, heat the canned black beans with a splash of water over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans (drained and rinsed)

Step 7: Finish the bife acebolado

Stir the fresh parsley and cilantro into the beef and onion mixture. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Step 8: Serve

Serve the bife acebolado with the roasted vegetables, black beans, and farofa on the side. Enjoy!
